Tech/Social night June

Tech/Social night June

Our next Tech/Social meeting at the Redlands Coast Museum is on Monday 15th June, 7:00PM for 7:30PM start.

Join us for an engaging and community-filled night, where innovation, exploration, and local connection take center stage. Whether you’re a regular member, a curious visitor, or have a passion for all things technical, this evening promises to inspire and inform. All are welcome!

We’ll kick off the night with a brief club update, where you’ll hear the latest news, developments, and plans from within the group. Then, Vice President John VK4JBE will be presenting part two of his talk on “An Introduction to DATV“.

John will continue explaining his journey into the fascinating world of Digital Amateur Television (DATV) by following up on the “Introduction to DATV” that we did last month. John will give a quick overview of some of the hardware and software you need to create DATV transmitters. We will also look at some of the different options you can use to receive DATV. We will then demonstrate some of these systems by transmitting and receiving live DVB-T and DVB-S/S2 signals.

The solutions will include a hardware DVB-T RF modulator that takes a DATV Testcard, generated by a Raspberry Pi 2B, and transmits the image to a couple of different receive systems including a conventional set-top-box and a simple TV Dongle running on a computer with the VLC software. We will also send some DVB-S2 signals using SIR-Television and a PlutoSDR. These will be received on SDRAngel using any old SDR and on SIR-Television.

There will be time for a short coffee break and a chance to catch up with friends. So come along, bring a friend, and enjoy a night of knowledge, stories, and community. As always, there will be be great conversation, warm coffee, and plenty of inspiration to take home.
