Switch on to Science

mad scientist showing satellites to youngsters

BDARS is representing the magic of radio at the Redlands Museum “Switch on to Science” as part of the national Science Week on Monday 12th August, 10AM to 2:30PM.

John VK4JBE will be showing his replica CubeSats and demonstrating all the communication modes. At the other end of the timeline, Bill VK4BUL will be explaining how crystal sets work without needing a power source, and will be showing several historical units. Bob VK4YA will be there too, using a current-day Software Defined Radio.

It will be a good day to meet the public and raise interest in our hobby. We are looking forward to explaining to inquisitive youngsters and grown-ups about Amateur Radio and the history of RF communication technology – a mode that does not need to rely upon the Internet but is still up-to-date!

BDARS members are invited to pop down to the museum to support the club and maybe grab a sausage from the Museum’s sizzle at the same time. The museum also has a Morse key demo adjacent to our stand; its waiting for you to show off your skill!
