International Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend

International Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend

We are planning to support and participate in the ILLW – 2026 event on the weekend of August 15th/16th.

BDARS has a history of being part of this event and we’ll continue this tradition by taking part on Saturday August 15th from Cleveland Point (near the lighthouse).

We’ll be picking up the equipment on Saturday morning at the museum around 7:00ish, and we should be on site at Cleveland Point soon after – reserving our spot and setting up. Operating times are 10AM to 5PM.

The event aim is two-fold, to contact as many lighthouses/lightships as possible and to contact as many participating amateurs as possible.

The ILLW usually attracts over 500 lighthouse entries located in over 40 countries. It is one of the most popular international amateur radio events in existence probably because there are very few rules and it is not the usual contest type event.

This is a very laid -back day, NOT a contest, no pressure to move on quickly as per contests – great for new operators, so a chance to swap details and have a very pleasant time. Even if you don’t take at turn at operating it will be a nice place to bring your friends and family and neighbors so they can see BDARS in operation!

Any members who wish to join in the radio fun, to help setup, operate and/or log, please email secretary@bdars.org.au
