International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend

International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend

A hearty thank-you to all the BDARS members who took part in yesterday’s (17th August 2025) field operation at the splendid Cleveland Point Lighthouse. The club was out in force, with a healthy turnout of members and a steady trickle of curious visitors – no doubt lured by both the lure of radio waves and the irresistible scent of fish and chips wafting from nearby!

The weather was nothing short of glorious – dry skies, mild temperatures, and a gentle sea breeze that reminded us we were indeed by the coast (as if the lighthouse hadn’t given it away).

Our trusty radios were humming along nicely on the 20m and 40m bands. Kicking things off on Sunday morning was a stroke of logistical genius – no need to hang about for the UTC start time, we just cracked on with it.

Massive thanks once again to Colin VK4ZPU for masterminding the whole affair, and to all the fine folk who lent a hand with setting up – and later dismantling – our rather impressive and mildly sprawling infrastructure. No small feat, that!
