This past Saturday morning saw the Victoria Point clubhouse come alive once again with activity, conversation, and collaboration. If you weren’t there, you truly missed out on a buzzing session packed with hands-on tinkering, problem-solving, and camaraderie that makes our community so special.
From the moment the doors opened, the place was a hive of energy. Whether you’re into vintage radios, cutting-edge tech, or just a good coffee and chat, there was something for everyone.
Tinkering, Testing, and Tech Talk
Russell was deep into diagnostics, working on a Raspberry Pi project and troubleshooting issues with surface-mounted components using our new microscope and soldering equipment. It’s always fascinating to watch these practical challenges tackled up close—another great learning opportunity for those interested in electronics.
Across the room, new members Shawn and Michael were immersed in antenna work, using the VNA (Vector Network Analyzer) to test and fine-tune antennas. Meanwhile, President Martin and John Paul were making great strides on the restoration of our WWII-era radio—a piece we hope will soon become a permanent exhibit.
Adding to the technical buzz, David was setting up materials and equipment in preparation for his upcoming Introductory Course on 3D Printing and CAD, which kicks off this Wednesday. It promises to be a fantastic session for anyone wanting to dip their toes into digital fabrication and design.
Real Radio Fun & Relaxed Conversations
Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper club morning without some hands-on radio work. The group also managed to squeeze in some practical testing of antennas and matching networks using the long wire antenna—a reminder of the roots of our club and the fun of real RF experimentation.
And yes, between all the soldering, scanning, and signal analysis, there was still plenty of time for catching up, sharing stories, and enjoying some excellent coffee. While this wasn’t one of our famed Bacon & Egg Burger Saturdays, the good news is—the next one is not far off!
If you missed this one, make sure you don’t miss the next. There’s always something happening at the clubhouse, and every Saturday offers new experiences, knowledge sharing, and community spirit. Whether you’re a regular or a curious newcomer, you’re always welcome.
