Our next Tech/Social meeting at the Redland Museum is on Monday 17th February, 7:00PM for 7:30PM start. Members and visitors (non members) are always welcomed.
Our main event is a presentation by our member John Bews VK4JBE :-
A Headless Raspberry Pi/Python based control system.
John will be showing us his demonstration project. The plan is to use this project as the subject of several follow up practical ‘hands-on’ learning sessions which will be held at the clubhouse.
Harnessing the power of a Raspberry Pi combined with Python programming opens up endless possibilities for controlling relays, managing lighting, and reading sensor data. These skills form a fundamental toolkit for anyone looking to develop their own shack-based automation or monitoring. Mastering these capabilities paves the way for more advanced, custom projects tailored to your own specific needs.
The follow-on practical learning sessions (at later dates) will cover :-
- Installing Raspberry Pi Operating System, connecting some LEDs and Relays and programming them to turn OFF/ON using Python.
- Connecting the OLED Display Screen and programming it to display messages and the basic menu.
- Connecting the Rotary Encoder + Switch and programming it to show changes/position
- Pulling it all together as a system……Rotary Encoder + Switch to select and display menu options and subsequently turn on Relays and LEDs
BDARS welcomes all interested members, even if you’re unable to attend the upcoming learning sessions. If you’d like to participate, please let John know and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
