Licensed & Ready is a personalised amateur radio licence exam mentoring programme.
The first session of 2026 takes place this Thursday afternoon at the clubhouse.
Got a New Year goal in Amateur Radio? Join us as we move forward with licensing together! We’re restarting on Thursday 15th January at the clubhouse 1:30PM — newcomers are welcome.
These twice-monthly Thursday afternoon sessions are fully candidate-focused, combining training with mentoring. They are designed to be flexible and personalised to support your own specific learning needs. There is no fixed delivery programme, so we focus only on what candidates want to learn more about.
While we’ll certainly delve into the fascinating worlds of electronics, radio theory, and practical operation, our overarching theme is empowerment — helping participants gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to attain or upgrade their Amateur Radio Operator’s Licence.
You’ll find motivation, structure, and a strong sense of community among others who share your goals, helping you maintain momentum in your learning. With the support of our experienced mentors and fellow enthusiasts, you’ll have the guidance and encouragement needed to stay on track and reach the next stage of your Amateur Radio journey.
Whether you’re just beginning your journey into Amateur Radio or aiming to upgrade your licence, this initiative brings everyone together through regular meet-ups and mentoring sessions..

BDARS has a long-standing commitment to supporting learners in achieving their goals across all facets of the hobby — from radio communication and electronics to experimentation and innovation. For example: What is Wires-X? How do I program CHIRP?
Calling more Mentors – BDARS Really Needs You!
You have a passion for Amateur Radio: do you have a bit of spare time to share your knowledge? Are you confident in your skills and keen to help fellow hobbyists grow and succeed?
BDARS is looking for enthusiastic and/or experienced members to join our mentorship group and help guide others, inspire confidence, and contribute expertise across all areas of the hobby.
This call isn’t just about licensing and exams! If you have know-how in areas such as EchoLink, DMR, or Fusion — or simply years of experience as an active operator — your knowledge could make a real difference. Whether you’re helping newcomers or supporting long-standing amateurs as they update and expand their skills, why not step up, get involved, and help shape the next generation of radio operators?
Please let Bob (VK4YA) or Martin (VK4MCU) know how you might be able to help your colleagues learn from your own experience and discoveries.
