This year BDARS is organising three teams to support the JOTA/JOTI Guides and Scouts event. Each team assists the youngsters as they meet up to celebrate Jamboree of the Air at the local Redlands camp sites at Karingal and Kindilan. It’s on next weekend: 16th – 18th October 2026.
The aim is to help the Scouts and Guides make contact with other troops around Australia and Internationally; Several radio modes can be used including digital, HF and via the Internet using IRLP and Echolink etc. More details from the WIA are here.
We are still needing more volunteers to attend the sites and operate the radios where we can teach the Scouts and Guides some radio skills – and to help them make contact with other troops.
If you are not attending in person, the groups would welcome you making radio contact from your QTH or mobile rig to have a chat with the youngsters and ask them about their JOTA activity day. We use our VHF/UHF repeaters to coordinate. Please volunteer to be on standby for that role too – arrange this in advance with Martin and Eddie!
The Scout leaders help to provide a very comfortable setting for the operations and we are often treated to an excellent lunch and supper.
Volunteers are requested to help the teams. Please coordinate with Martin, VK4MCU if you think you would like to help. Blue Card holders (or equivalent) are required for the on-site part of the event.
