Jamboree of the Air 2025

Jamboree of the Air 2025

This year BDARS is organising teams to support the JOTA/JOTI Guides and Scouts event this Saturday- starting activities at around 0830 on Saturday morning (18th Oct).

Each team looks after the radio training and experience for the local Scout and Guide troops as they meet up to celebrate Jamboree of the Air at the camp sites in the Redlands and Samford.

More volunteers would be helpful, and extra help at Karringal will especially be appreciated.

The aim of our teams is to help the Scouts and Guides make contact with other troops around Australia and Internationally; Several radio modes can be used including digital, HF and via the Internet using IRLP and Echolink etc.

Our teams will also be on HF and using our Mt Cotton VHF/UHF repeaters – so please be patient with the young voices that will be learning to use radios and having some fun.

The provisional BDARS team allocations are:-

Karringal Stations – 1 and 2 (VK4BAR/P1/2)
Location: Karingal – Wreckatta (Sir Leslie Wilson District, Birkdale SG & Girl Guides:
Eddie – VK4TJE
Ian – VK4YIP (Is a scout leader so will not be manning the station)
Russell – VK4DCM
Bob – VK4YA

Samford Station – 3 (VK4BAY/P)
Location: Baden Powell – Samford – Jumbo Nixon Glade camping area.
Supporting: Manly-Lota Scout Group:
Martin – VK4MCU
Henry – VK4BUD
Martin has vehicle space to take another two volunteers.

If you are not attending in person, the groups would welcome you making radio contact from your QTH or mobile rig to have a chat with the youngsters and ask them about their JOTA activity day. The sort of things you can ask are, for example:-

“What is the name of your Scout group or troop?”

“What is your favorite outdoor activity with your group?”

“Have you made contact with other groups by radio today; where were they located?”

“Have you ever earned a badge you’re really proud of? What was it for?”

How many Scouts / Guides are in your group, and what do you like to do together?”

The Scout leaders help to provide a very comfortable setting for the volunteers and we are often treated to an excellent lunch and supper.

Volunteers are requested to help the teams. Please coordinate with Martin, BDARS secretary if you think you would can help. email: secretary@bdars.org.au
